Top 20

MIT retains #1 for the 14th consecutive year. Imperial College London’s #2 position (up from #6) reflects its strong citations and employer reputation scores. Australia

7 Australian universities in the top 100: Melbourne (#13), Sydney (#18), UNSW (#19), ANU (#30), Monash (#37), Queensland (#40), UWA (#77). Australia has the highest number of top-100 universities per capita of any country.

Asia Rising

Tsinghua (#14) and Peking (#20) both entered the top 20 for the first time. NUS (#8) remains Asia’s highest-ranked university. The trend: Chinese, Singaporean, and Korean universities are gaining on US/UK incumbents, driven by research output growth and improving employer reputation.

Methodology Changes

QS introduced Sustainability (5%) in 2024 and Employment Outcomes (5%) in 2023. These additions shifted rankings: universities with strong industry connections and sustainability programmes benefited. The core Academic Reputation weight was reduced from 40% to 30%.
